My 2nd Bone Surgery, May 18, 2004

I was under the medication of Traditional Bone Setters till March 2003, I got better and started moving with a walking stick. Things were looking bright, the following month, i was preparing to resume work when i recieved invitations for job interview from 2 companies, that was how i got a job with an Internet Service Provider in July 2003. I had to resign from my old place of work since the new one provided more opportunities for me and i would'nt be moving around much. For three months my leg showed some improvement, not until November 2003 when i noticed swelling and pores from a small wound. My Boss adviced me to register with the National Orthorpeadic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos. I was told at the Hospital that there was an infection on my bone and a non-union. I was placed on antibiotics for 6 months, after which i went through another surgery in May 2004 to correct the non-union of my bones. This time, the infected area was scrapped off, and the bones were joined with an internal fixation made up of metal plate and screws. After six weeks my leg was wrapped with a POP (Plaster of Paris), this time the POP was more improved, plastic type, light weight, with a walking heel, i was discharged 2 weeks later. In order not to loose my new job i resumed work 3 months after my surgery with POP still on my legs (against doctor's advice) . Everything seemed okay, i felt no pains, the POP was removed 6 weeks later, which was too early, because the leg started swelling again, though at that time the swelling could be seen as normal until 6 months later when i noticed pores once again on my wound, it now dawned on me that the infection has not cleared. Maybe my rush to bear weight on the leg caused this i cannot tell, but my doctor said the non-union of the bones will remain until the infection clears, for another year i battled with the infection. The infection finally cleared January 2006, and i was told to prepare for another surgery to unite my bones again! I cried.
